"Goodbye Echia, Hello Theta"

Posted on Tue Aug 18th, 2020 @ 6:57pm by Ambassador Kyrza Jadoss

Mission: When The Circus Comes To Town
Location: Federation Consulate, Echia

"Look, Kyrza, it's not that you are a terrible diplomat or anything but... well, you gotta understand that not everyone wants to play nice, share stuff, and be friends," the Consul-General said, softening his words and his language even as he got to the heart of the problem, "there are planets and empires out here that mean to do us harm. Hell, even just looking out for their own best interests, often at the expense of ours! You aren't a fool. Surely you see that?"

Kyr nodded slowly, his big eyes seemingly also blinking slowly. He remained silent for a moment before replying, "I understand, but you know I don't agree. It isn't a zero sum game. If we are both honest, and forthright, and share in our cultural understandings, both sides can gain."

"That only works if both sides are willing to play nice," the Consul-General of the Federation on Echia sighed, shoulders slumping, "You've got to learn how to firm up and negotiate hard. Make tough calls, be less than completely truthful, even if it means we aren't as open as you'd like us to be. You've got all the education, knowledge, and skill to be a good diplomat, Kyrza, but... it's not always sunshine and flowers out here. You know this."

Kyr nodded again, "I know."

"Well, you're not my problem anymore anyway," the Consul-General moved on, picking up a different PADD and sliding it to his now-former Deputy, "you've got a new assignment. And against my better judgement, Kyr, they're promoting you. If you want to call it that."

Angeling his head sideways in curiosity, Kyr picked up the PADD and started skimming, even as his now-former supervisor continued, "You're going back to the Federation. Guess someone with enough pull screamed hard enough for some diplomatic help, and for better or worse, your name came up. They haven't named a chef d'mission yet, and as far as I can tell, you'll be a staff of one."

"...inside the Federation?" Kyr asked, his head-tilt of curiosity now angeling to the other side.

"Yeah. Strange, I know," the Andorian replied, his antenna bending inwards slightly, "Cold Station Theta is a pretty big station, near the border, in that exclave, and arguably on a frontier. Couple other folks have set up Embassies and Consulates there. Not sure what you're gonna call a Federation diplomatic mission inside Federation space, but I'm sure you'll figure something out. Not exactly a seat of galactic importance, but... it's yours. At least until they name a proper chef d'mission."

Kyr wasn't entirely sure how he felt about the turn of events, but it certainly seemed like... well, it was a change, and perhaps an opportunity. Strange or not, maybe it was a way forward.

The blue-skinned Consul-General stood up, "Good Luck, Kyrza. Remember what I said, alright? It'll do you good. We need more good guys, and you've got the skills. Just... make the tough calls, and try not to be so... nice. Alright?"

Kyr stood too, and they exchanged short, curt bows from the shoulder, as was Andorian custom, "I will try. Thank you."

"And I mean it," the Andorian added, dropping back in his chair as Kyr headed for the door, "Good luck."
